If you’re like most artists, you look for opportunities to learn new skills and stretch the bounds of your creative imagination. Participating in photog challenges is a great way to accomplish those goals. Some photographers come up with their own challenges, but many rely on challenges created by other people. -ClickinMoms has a great forum where they share what they call creative exercises. Last month they featured a ‘Close-up Portraiture‘ creative exercise that is sure to get your imagination going. Their blog and forums are worth frequent visits.
-Mashable recently launched a weekly photo challenge series. So far, they’re offering a great variety of prompts. Everything from city scapes to grids. Visit their site to learn more. If you share your challenge results you could even win prizes.
-Digital Photography School has a great many resources to offer photographers but one of our favorites has to be their weekly photography challenge. The added bonus is that as a subscriber you can get these weekly challenges sent right to your email inbox.
-i heart faces is another fab resource for photographers; their weekly and monthly photog challenges are just two of the many wonderful things they offer. They’re monthly challenge is judged for prizes.
-Create your own! One of the best ways to create a good challenge for yourself is to compile a catalog of your favorite photos by other photographers. Once you have a group of photos, go through that group and take time to really look at each photo to determine what you love about it. Is it the lighting, the composition, the use of color? Use those qualities to build a customized list of challenges for yourself.
